A woman’s body experiences a series of changes after pregnancy, giving birth, and breastfeeding. These changes include excess fat, loose skin, deflated breasts, drooping breasts, and diastasis recti (separated abdominal muscles).

A Mommy Makeover combines at least two separate surgical procedures that target the areas most affected by childbirth. These techniques allow mothers who may have lost confidence in their physiques to attain a renewed sense of love for their bodies.

Mommy Makeover Candidates

Candidates for Mommy Makeover surgery are unhappy with the physical alterations caused by the childbearing process. These women are in good general health, do not smoke, and have realistic expectations for what a Mommy Makeover can do for them. During their consultation with Dr. Mockler, the Vectra 3D imaging system will allow them to see mock-ups of their results, giving them an idea of what to expect afterward.

While Mommy Makeover surgery will tone and sculpt the physique, patients should be close to their ideal weight. Plastic surgery is not intended for weight loss. Instead, it is designed for women who have worked hard to lose the baby weight but are struggling. This procedure will help women restore a youthful physique, feel more comfortable in clothing and swimsuits, and lessen skin irritations caused by lax skin.

Mommy Makeover Procedure

A Mommy Makeover consists of a series of procedures that target the breasts, abdomen, and regions of the body with excess fat. This surgical makeover is tailored to meet the patient’s needs and desires. The cost of a Mommy Makeover will reflect the combination of procedures and techniques used.

Combining procedures allows the patient to undergo a single surgical day and recovery period. This is easier on their body as well as their pocketbooks.

Breast Lift – The breasts swell significantly during pregnancy due to the increase in hormones and the production of milk. The loss of this volume and the strain of breastfeeding cause premature breast sagging. Breast sagging is repaired with a breast lift. This procedure tightens the glandular tissue and trims excess skin. Large areolas and downward-facing nipples can also be altered with a breast lift.

Breast Augmentation – Breasts do not only start to sag after pregnancy and breastfeeding, but they also lose the volume that existed before pregnancy. When enough volume is lost, the breasts develop a deflated appearance. Women who are unhappy with this can choose to augment their breasts with implants to restore size and fullness.

Tummy Tuck – As the uterus expands, the abdominal muscles are pushed outward. Occasionally, the two sides of the muscles separate, causing a condition known as diastasis recti. When not repaired, diastasis recti creates the appearance of a lower belly pooch, which cannot be corrected through diet and exercise. Tummy tuck surgery tightens the separated muscles and removes excess skin to restore a smoother, tighter abdominal appearance.

Liposuction – The sudden change in hormones during your pregnancy causes fat to accumulate in places where it may not have been an issue before. Liposuction removes localized pockets of fat from the abdomen, hips, thighs, buttocks, and back to restore pre-pregnancy curves and firmness.

Mommy Makeover Recovery

The recovery time for your Mommy Makeover will depend on the combination of procedures and the extent of correction. Patients will be sore, bruised, and swollen. Compression garments and surgical dressings will be wrapped around all incisions, and patients will require assistance with all normal activities for the first two days. Oral pain medication and cold compresses should remedy any discomfort—patients should take leisurely walks and perform light stretches to promote circulation and accelerate the recovery process.

Most patients return to their normal activities within two weeks, but vigorous exercise should be avoided for six weeks.

Mommy Makeover Results

The results of your Mommy Makeover will gradually show as the bruising and swelling subside. This can take anywhere from a few weeks to a few months. Patients can enjoy long-lasting improvement by following a healthy lifestyle and maintaining a stable weight.

Significant weight fluctuations and additional pregnancies will negatively affect the results. We suggest postponing your Mommy Makeover until after you are finished having children.

This surgery will not stop the aging process, and in time, patients will experience additional skin laxity.
